Balcan 2016 Eastern Europe

Balkans 2016 Episode 5

Montenegro

Johnny has a colleague, Elvis, who originates from Montenegro. On Facebook we mention that we are now on our way to his old homeland and tag him. Coincidentally, he is online and sends a message that if we pass by the town of Pljevlja, that is where he was born.

A little over an hour later: A city sign appears and a cartoon light turns on in our brains - that was it!

We quickly back up and shoot a picture.

At work, he has told a lot about his old home area and the opportunities it holds. For those of us who are into experiences, a little away from plastic tourism, it sounds absolutely perfect and Montenegro has long been high on the wish list.
Among the many things are Tara Canyon and Dumitor National Park. Natural phenomena that seem extremely attractive.

We arrive at Tara Canyon Bridge in the afternoon. It is Europe's deepest gorge and there are 170 m from the bridge down to the river. The bridge is 365 m long. The gorge itself covers a large area, approximately 82 km long and in some places up to 1300 m deep.
It is a sight for gods. We find a parking space and go for a walk on the bridge. There are people who bungee jumper, but we skip that.

Here it oozes with life. There is also a zip line that goes over the gorge, it also looks entertaining.
All in all, there is a lot to see, so we decide to spend the night here. There is a very primitive campsite, close to the bridge, where we can spend the night.

There is a café near the bridge. We find a table with a good view.
The bridge becomes more and more beautiful to look at as the sun sets and the colors change.

On the table there are menu cards, which also have pictures of the bridge. Here you can see the clouds that lie low in the morning, and slowly lift off when the sun comes out.

We would like to see that.
Johnny therefore sets the clock to 4 o'clock in order to be ready to take pictures before the sun rises.
Sus is more into lying down and sniffling, so she crawls further under the covers when Johnny gets up. However, it ends up that the temptation for the beautiful sight wins, so off it goes. Out of the feathers and out to take pictures. We will not be cheated. The clouds lie perfectly down in the valley, just as we saw in the pictures in the café.

Since we have been taking pictures separately all morning, we randomly meet on a slope before breakfast and say to each other "wow that was nice, did you get some good pictures"? We laugh and quickly agree that it is a wild morning.

The clouds have almost cleared, so now it's time for some breakfast. After breakfast, we go over and look at the zip-line and the small stalls where you can buy all kinds of souvenirs. As for the zip line, we both agree that we don't have time for that.
At least it's not because we don't dare…
We buy a couple of hot waffles and go back to the car. It must be packed up and then we are ready to go to Dumitor National Park.
