Seydisfjordur-Akureyri
We have become completely addicted to Iceland, so we are taking a 3rd trip
It is the second time we have taken our own car up there and after our accident in 2009, it has now been refurbished and has a new engine. Now we are all ready to explore Iceland again.
Johnny drives the car to Hirtshals and takes the ferry. It takes 3 days to sail up there in high season, with a short stop at the Faroe Islands for a few hours.
At the ferry terminal in Hirtshals, it is full of expedition cars that have had the same idea of a good holiday in Iceland.
As it is high season, the ferry is full of people. We circle like hungry sharks around a dead whale, to find the coveted seats where there is a socket.
There is good entertainment for families with children, including a couple of clowns making balloon animals.
At the entrance to Seydisfjordur, the morning mist is thick and creates an enchanting atmosphere.
The ferry arrives early in the morning and the course is now set for the north coast. Sus must be picked up in Akureyri, where she will land by plane from Denmark in a few days.
It's time for winding small roads that lead away from the busier areas and onto the F-roads (gravel road).
After a few days of exploration based on the motto "if it looks interesting, we'll turn that way" it's time to pick up Sus at the airport.
After arrival, the troops are now under control.
We drive around Akureyri, get the shopping for the food box and find a good accommodation to set up camp. We see Icelandic horses in many places and they come in many beautiful colors and some also have markings. If a horse is sold abroad, it must never return to Iceland. It is their way of keeping the breed clean and disease-free.
