Northern Europe Nordic trip

Nordic tour 2018, episode 5

Norway, on the way to Lofoten
It has been a great experience to see Nordkapp, so now it can be crossed off the bucket list. We choose to drive along the sea to Lofoten and come through cozy fishing villages.

At Langfjordbotn, we set up camp and are offered to come in and see a private collection from the history of the Sami. We say yes, thank you, and enter a large collection of everything between heaven and earth. There are mountains of Donald Duck magazines, Spirillen & Co, Lucky Luke and Jumbo books, so we get all nostalgic. After a trip down Memory Lane, we come to the room with the Samer exhibition.
Here are sleds, clothes and shoes, skis, tools, bags and little stories from a bygone era. The Sami costume has a dominant color and decorated band. The women's jacket is the longest. The folk costumes are different from area to area and can show whether you are married or unmarried, local affiliation and religious affiliation.

Reindeer goes again in almost everything. Shoes, clothes and bags. The original Sami costumes were sewn from skin, but now fabric woven from wool or cotton is used.

Reindeer skins are also used as blankets for the sleds.

Should we replace the roof tent with a Lavvu anyway, Johnny seemed to be considering.

We thank you for the hospitality and must move on.

We get a nice view of Øksfjordjøkelen, which is the 10th largest glacier in Scandinavia. Although it is "only" the 10th largest glacier, it still occupies 41 square kilometers - that's a big lump of ice.

Besides oil, aquaculture is the second largest source of income for Norway. Along the coast we also see a lot of nets and small boats that sail out and look after the fish.

The big mountains continue to impress us. The mountains change color according to the weather and just look really beautiful.

We are approaching the Tjeldsund Bridge, which takes us over to Lofoten.
