Northern Europe Nordic trip

Nordic tour 2018, section 3

On the way to the Arctic Circle, we come to Rovaniemi, which is the administrative capital of Lapland.

There are approximately 62,000 inhabitants here, so it is the size of our own hometown - Helsingør.

This is also where the world's northernmost McDonalds is located, if you needed to know.

The Finns believe that this is where Santa Claus lives.

As a Dane, you can question that. But we set out to investigate the matter and go to Santa's village and Santapark.

There is a nice entrance, so now we have to see what they have to offer.

At least have some fun.

We will have the opportunity to meet Santa Claus. However, a picture costs DKK 50, so we are content to have him in our memories.

It must be a bit lonely to be Santa in August, so he hijacks Johnny and starts talking and talking. Sus lists quickly on.

It is also possible to write Christmas cards, which will then be sent in December. Soveniers are also there in abundance, but Johnny assures us that we are not missing anything.

Sus has been to Jacobshavn in Greenland, where the real Santa Claus lives, so we don't jump on the bandwagon that he lives in Finland. But at least it's cozy here.

After celebrating Christmas in August, we find a campsite where we can enjoy ourselves. This is the first time we have crossed the Arctic Circle with our car.

There are not many people at the campsite, so we have it almost all to ourselves.
We give it gas and unpack it all, put sides on the awning and make a good dinner on the cobb grill.

After a good night's sleep, we treat ourselves to freshly baked buns.

The Cobb grill can also be used as an oven, so we have bought brunch buns, where you just need to add water and yeast. The dough can then be left to rise in the car for a long time, until the next morning.

And then there are hot freshly baked buns for breakfast.

We continue through the Finnish forests to the north. We are only some 100 km from the Norwegian border.

On a small forest road there is suddenly a moose crossing the road. Finally we get to see one.

Until now, we have driven many forest kilometers and only seen signs with warnings about moose. But we haven't seen a single one - until now. So here they are.

Johnny only gets to see the shadow of the back end of it, but Sus saw the whole thing.
