Actually, we would have liked to have gone to the Kola Peninsula in Russia.
But it was not possible to get anyone to come along.
As we neither speak Russian nor know the area, we don't want to drive up there alone. There should be wildly beautiful scenery, but also have its driving challenges.
So it is best to be at least two cars away that can help each other. We therefore have to change our plans a bit, so now we are taking a trip around the Nordics instead.
It will be through Sweden to Finland, all the way through Finland to the North Cape in Norway and so on a little south to Lofoten and back home through Sweden.
As soon as we are free from work, we will drive to Sweden, there is no time to waste. So we have already reached abroad on the first day.
We make use of the commons right and find a small clearing in a forest where it is possible to make a good camp site.
The sun sets in front of the car and gives us the most beautiful evening light.
They have dug deep into their pockets and invested in a roof tent plus an awning where you can attach sides, so that it acts as an awning if shelter is needed.
It is even possible to attach a tunnel, from the awning up to the roof tent. Then you don't have to go outside at all if it rains. It will now be put to the test.
It has been a wonderful night's sleep in our own mobile hotel. There is actually an impressive amount of space in the roof tent. When we slept in the car, we had to move around to get to bed.
There was a lot of hustle and bustle and you couldn't go to bed at the same time. One had to be in place in bed before the other could get in and go to bed. It is not like that at all in the roof tent.
There is plenty of room for both of us to reach, and it is high enough for you to stand upright on your knees without touching the ceiling. It's a really good comfort upgrade.
We pack up and go for a walk in the forest. It is very quiet, but we still make too much noise for us to see any animals, so we just enjoy the forest.
The trip continues to Stockholm, where we will take the ferry to Turku in Finland. The signs in the garden are not quite easy to see, so we just have to drive a few laps before we find out where we are going.
In the end we succeeded and we come by ferry.
Sailing through the Swedish archipelago is an absolutely incredible sight. In some places it is so narrow that you have the feeling that you could reach the cliff side if you put your hand over the railing.
It goes at a leisurely pace, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the view and have a good meal.
